Villa Gioianna is a gorgeous country residence sitting in a large garden, olive grove and vineyards upon a hill above Lake Trasimeno, where it commands a superb view of Tuscany, Umbria and Lake Trasimeno. The Villa is an historic country villa with eight wildly romantic bedrooms, ten beautifully-tiled bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen with a huge fireplace and a wood-burning oven (in addition to modern appliances), spacious living and dining rooms opening onto terraces, an alluring tiled swimming pool, bocce court, large flower and kitchen garden, olive grove, private forest, fruit orchard, extensive grounds and stunning views.
Local lore relates that the Villa was constructed in 1918, but experts have dated it much older. The "padrone", or wealthy landowner, of the surrounding farms and vineyards built it as his showcase residence and he and his descendants resided here until the 1970s, when a Roman doctor made it his family's country home. In the early 21st century, we purchased and then renovated and updated the Villa for the new century, but with such respect for the original architecture, spirit and history of the house that the Villa retains the warmth and ambience of an Italian family country home.
Terracotta and hand-painted tile floors, whitewashed walls, walnut doors and wood-beamed ceilings form a simple background for an eclectic decorative style of splendid antiques, supremely comfortable beds and vintage lighting dressed with unique, custom-designed shades. The Villa's many new bathrooms are notorious locally, both for their appearance and number: as every woman will appreciate, there are nine full bathrooms in the Villa, enough to ensure that every bedroom has its own bathroom. Enjoy them without guilt: in the summer, 100% of the Villa's hot water comes from solar panels.
Visitors arrive at Villa Gioianna via an avenue lined with cypresses, lime trees and lavender, passing through a mature park of 4-1/2 acres of woods, vineyards, olive groves, fruit trees and flower gardens. The Villa is a small working estate that produces its own olive oil, fruit, vegetables, wonderfully fragrant flowers and herbs.
Villa Gioianna did not originate and is not maintained as a run-of-the-mill tourist hotel or an economically furnished guest house without character or soul. This is an aristocratic family country retreat that gushes charm. We are perhaps stuck in time in the sense that the focus is on experiencing the good life in a simple way, with family and friends, good food and wine and beautiful surroundings. We offer warm hospitality, relaxation and an unforgettable experience of immersion in the sublime Italian lifestyle.
